The downsides are that only the pen effects your lines and if you tap it with your finger nothing happens, also that you’ll have to have good hand eye coordination since you’ll be drawing blindly.
Another choice to consider would be getting a stand alone android tablet.
The main downside being the Google Play Store doesn’t have a lot of drawing apps.
The choice that meets in the middle is a screened drawing tablet but they cost just as much as a stand alone tablet. And they’re super big and take up a lot of space.
